Our Top Tips to Keep Your Hair in Great Shape This Winter

Winter is just around the corner, and whether you love or hate the snowy season, it can wreak serious havoc on your hair. The cold weather isn’t just bad for your skin. It can dry out your ends, causing them to become brittle and break. And while a hot shower might seem like a great idea to shake the chills, the hot water can dry out your hair even more and cause damage to your scalp, which can be more sensitive in the winter.
Skincare gets a lot of attention as the seasons change, but we don’t always give the same consideration to your hair. Here are our top six tips for keeping yours in top shape.
Buy a Humidifier
Indoor heating can cause the air to dry out, sucking the moisture from your hair along with it. A humidifier for your bedroom, living room, or even a small one for your desk, can help keep the air in your home or office humid, keeping your hair (and skin) from drying out.
Keep Up Regular Maintenance
It’s tempting to want to cancel every appointment and stay cozy inside in the winter, especially on those especially cold days – but whatever you do, don’t cancel your hair appointment! Maintaining your regular hair routine, including trims, prevents split ends from getting out of hand and causing damage.
Put Down the Shampoo, and Double-Down on the Conditioner
Shampooing strips the natural oils out of your hair, leaving it more prone to drying out. It can be hard to break a daily shampoo habit, but cutting back to shampooing once or twice a week can help your hair maintain it’s natural health and beauty. If you need to, supplement with a dry shampoo in between.
On the other hand, conditioner is your best friend! Use it every time you wash, and invest in a moisturizing hair mask to use once a week.
Air Dry When Possible
Avoid heat styling whenever possible – including blow drying. Heat styling is always harsh on your hair, but in the dry winter temperatures when hair is more fragile than normal, it can be even more damaging.
Of course, it’s never a good idea to go outside with wet hair; it can cause your hair to freeze and break. If your options are heat drying or go outside with wet hair, opt for the hair dryer.
Don’t Forget Your H20
If you’re not staying hydrated, there’s no way your hair will be either! Make sure you’re taking in at least eight glasses of water a day. This will help keep you feeling great, your skin feeling soft, and your hair hydrated.

Investing in quality products is important for maintaining the condition of your hair all year round, but especially in the winter.
